Implementing and Supporting Lasting Change

Advancing EDI is here to support you in creating an inclusive environment. This is somewhere your staff, clients and/or students feel safe, feel they belong and are free to be their best selves.

Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is a complicated area. There is rarely a single reason for inequalities and therefore no single solution. We aim to work with you to:

  • understand any issues that exist, using data and research;

  • listen to your people and communities to understand their experiences; and

  • help you to develop effective strategies, underpinned by tangible and operational actions for change.

We work with both the public and private sector, on short and longer-term projects.

POLICY

A good policy should be a statement of intent, setting the culture and motivation for the policy, underpinned by clear, SMART actions.

RESEARCH

Through research, interview and focus groups, key themes and trends can be identified. These are reported back with recommendations.

TRAINING

Training is most effective when it has clear aims and objectives and is embedded within a wider strategy, in order to achieve the best results.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

“We commissioned Claire Herbert, Advancing EDI, to work with us in developing our EDI strategy. The aim of the project was to ensure we widely involved staff and students in the development of the strategy and action plan in a way that was sensitive to the need for safe and confidential spaces for discussion. Claire developed the proposal for and facilitated focus groups exploring the impact of disability, religion and belief, parental and caring responsibilities, sexual orientation, and race and ethnicity on the experiences of staff and students as well as exploring equity, diversity and inclusion values and aims for LSHTM. The resulting report was extremely comprehensive and made a fundamental contribution to the development our new EDI strategy and action plan. The work was undertaken throughout June and July 2020 with sensitivity to the circumstances of the first Covid19 lockdown.”
